As we approach the 350^th anniversary of the birth of Roger Kay, we reflect upon his legacy to the Bury Grammar Schools. Roger Kay knew that he had been fortunate in life and his generous bequest ensured that future generations, who might not be so fortunate, should be blessed with the priceless opportunity of a fine education.

As the Schools have grown, that initial vision has required both the expansion of the campus with the provision of ever improving facilities and the creation of more bursary places for able pupils whose families cannot afford our fees. This enlargement of the vision of our first Founders has been made possible only by a continuing tradition of benefaction.

The vision and ethos of our Founders continues to drive our Schools forward today. We have a distinguished reputation and we remain determined to continue to deliver excellence in education through the 21^st century.

Our students have ability and potential. They are encouraged to take advantage of all the opportunities open to them:  they travel the globe, achieve success in every sphere, raise money for, and awareness of, worthy charities, and participate in a wide variety of interests and extra-curricular activities.

The BGS spirit is strong. Alumni and students alike are unafraid to aim high, making them highly valued in the workforce and represented across the world in every profession.

We must ensure that our students and teachers have the facilities and resources they need. At the same time we must make certain that the key to knowledge is made available to bright children who would benefit from a BGS education regardless of family income.
