The Way Forward

The Key that Opens Holy Doors. Roger Kay, one of our original founders, gave us this motto; he had complete faith in the future and recognised that education was central to it.

His vision and contribution made our school possible and it is his spirit and ethos which drive our Way Forward Appeal. If you would like to offer your help please do not hesitate to contact francine@bgsdev.demon.co.uk.

A new Kindergarten School

Boasting many innovative and imaginative features, our new Kindergarten and Pre-School facility, which was opened in September 2008, offers young children a flying start in education and gives them the finest environment imaginable in which to cultivate a love of learning. Our youngest pupils are nurtured and encouraged in their inspired new surroundings, which feature an octagonal assembly hall, a large library with computer suite for interactive learning, a music room, a bright new gym, specialist classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and a rooftop playground affording views of the whole borough. This newest addition to our campus is physical proof of our supportive community and dedicated team of staff, without whom such a target would not have been achieved.

Bursaries - changing young lives

"Our Governors are committed to making a BGS education accessible to as many young people as possible, regardless of family income. It is a thoroughly worthwhile scheme and in the space of four years has already led to the provision of bursary places for 50 gifted and deserving applicants. Such an achievement has only been made possible by generous gifts to our bursary scheme. We must continue to source funding for bright young children whose lives would be positively changed by such an opportunity. I wholeheartedly endorse this campaign and urge everyone who can to support it."

Plans for the Sixth Form Centre - a stepping stone to university and beyond

"We are very proud of our reputation for preparing our students for their university and subsequent careers. This well-deserved reputation is the result of the first class teaching provided by highly qualified staff in all departments of the Bury Grammar Schools and of the excellent facilities which our students have to support their studies.

Our new Sixth Form Centre will help us to enhance this reputation in the 21st century by enabling us to provide even better facilities for teaching and learning. The students of both schools will continue to reap the benefits of their single-sex education, while being able to enjoy, in a college-style environment, the enrichment of working and socialising together. The Sixth Form Centre will be at the heart of our continuing commitment to give each student the richest possible Sixth Form experience. We shall be immensely grateful for any help you are able to give us to make this Sixth Form Centre a reality for all our students."
