Sponsoring A Child
Named Bursaries
Individuals and companies are invited to sponsor a child through his/her school career, providing a named bursary place of their choice. Participants in this scheme will pay 50% of the annual school fees (currently set at £8,400) upon invoice each September.
The Schools are registered as a charity, therefore whatever amount a company pledges to the Bury Grammar Schools will be deducted from profits when assessing tax liability. For companies paying 30% tax, the cost of a £4200 annual gift would be £2940.
For individuals, the cost of a £4200 annual gift would be £3281. The Schools would reclaim £919 from the Inland Revenue, making the total up to £4200, providing the donor is a UK tax payer and signs a Gift Aid Declaration. Additionally, the donor can reclaim tax paid at the higher rate through their Self Assessment form, which would make the actual cost of the bursary place £2441 per annum (at current fee levels).
We owe these young people the opportunity to take advantage of our very special education and your support can really make a difference to their future.
Our Commitment
Bursaries will remain one of our top development priorities; our vision is to increase the value of our Schools Bursary Fund in order to help secure the necessary financial support we need to continue our traditions and influence the lives of Bury Grammar School pupils.
All donations made to our Bursary Fund are used specifically for that purpose.
Applications are rigorously means tested. Assistance is placed where it is most needed.
