Our Vision
The vision of our earliest benefactors, Henry Bury and Roger Kay, was to found a school that would educate young people to the highest possible standard; these young men and women would make a valuable contribution and a positive difference to our community and to society as a whole.
Si monumentum requiris, circumspice
If you seek their monument, look around you
The two Bury Grammar Schools have continued to work together to provide an outstanding education for generations of girls and boys. Our Alumni achieve distinction world wide; they are characterised by their spirit of enquiry, their contribution to society and their affection for the institution that has made it all possible.
We must always look to the future and ensure that our students are provided with the facilities they need to take full advantage of a BGS education in the 21st century. The most recent addition to the campus is a wonderful new Kindergarten, fully equipped to give our very youngest pupils the best possible start in their education. Our sights are now set on another ambitious building project: a new Sixth Form Centre for the pupils of both Schools. This modern, college-style facility will combine our high level of teaching and pastoral care with the promotion of independent study and research, resulting in a unique pre-university experience for our most senior pupils.
While maintaining the momentum of our building plans, we must also ensure that as many children as possible have access to our School through our Bursary Fund. Many former BGS students now in highly successful careers owe the foundation of their achievement to generous benefactors, without whose assistance an education at BGS would simply not have been a possibility.
We must seek support for both of these most worthy funds.
The future looks bright indeed. As we look around at our continually developing Schools, we may say that the hopes of our founders continue to be fulfilled. They would have every reason to be proud of the flourishing foundation that the Bury Grammar Schools are today.
