Old Boys Founders' Day Dinner 2010
The 2010 Founders' Day dinner at School went extremely well...around 155 Old Boys attended and we were very well fed (duck, no less!) and watered (Thwaites beer!). Old Clavians from far and wide attended - Clive Armitage from Australia and Barry Henstock from Canada. Another Canadian visitor was Joe Prophet, who left BGS in 1939 and I believe this was his first visit to the OB's dinner.
My compatriot, Mark Joynson, gave a very nice toast to the School but the star of the evening was John Kendall who was on fine form amongst great friends, former colleagues and ex-pupils. In his speech, entirely without notes, he reminisced of his early career under John Robson and subsequent musings about life in the Senior Common Room. John was one of the last of the teachers of "my era" to retire. Good luck to all those in retirement.
Former masters were well represented - I spotted Philip Gooderson, Derek Hodgkiss, Malcolm Curtis, Martin Hateley, Peter Skinner, Tim Burns, Geoff Bennett etc etc. It is as much fun seeing them as it is catching up with old friends!
Kind Regards to all, Martin Entwistle (1985)
Event photographs by Old Boy Nathan Chandler (2008) have been posted in the Reunion Gallery
2011 Dinner will be held on Friday 6th May, for more information please email Martin direct bgsoba@me.com .
