Investing In Our Future
Why help us?
At BGS we are proud of the broad and balanced education we are able to provide, but in an increasingly complex and fast-changing world it is essential that we equip our students with the skills, attributes and attitudes which will enable them to be versatile, adaptable and independent, whilst firmly retaining a sense of compassionate humanity. With the contributions we receive, we are able to provide the facilities necessary to allow our pupils to pursue their interests and cultivate their individual talents, while receiving the best possible standard of classroom education. Many of our pupils have built successful careers in drama, art and music, having first trodden the boards, made their first brush strokes or played their first notes at BGS.
We have reached a critical point in our development plans and it is essential that we progress with the same momentum that has enabled us to reach this stage. Our next project - the construction of a new Sixth Form Centre - will be the perfect balance for our new Kindergarten, and together these new amenities will ensure that our students start and complete their Bury Grammar School education in a first class environment. Preserving the values of tolerance, good manners and appreciation, our pupils are widely recognised as being exceptional young people and they deserve the best facilities we can offer.
We must also remain committed to the original aims of our Founders in that a Bury Grammar School education should be available to all able young children, regardless of background or income. Without Government support we have to turn to our own resources to finance the education of bright children who would otherwise be unable to attend our schools.
It is not possible for us to finance any of our Development projects from fee income alone and we must rely on fundraising in order to fulfil our vision for the future.
Your support can really make a difference to the life of a young person and to the School as a whole and we urge you to consider contributing in whatever way you feel you can. If you would like to discuss any issues relating to Development and fundraising, or if you are considering making a donation, please contact the Development Officer, Francine Healey, on francine@bgsdev.demon.co.uk / 0161 764 1733.
Bury Grammar School Funds
Donations we receive are divided between our three Development funds. Donors are welcome to specify the particular fund of their choice if they so wish.
The BGS Discretionary Fund
The Discretionary Fund is established for donors who simply wish to benefit the Schools and recognise that our financial requirements do and must change. This fund allows our Governors to place our resources in areas that are in most need of financial assistance.
The BGS Building Fund
If you have visited the Schools over the last few years you will have noticed that many improvements that have been made to both the external and internal student facilities; the Learning Resource Centre, the Art Department, a number of classroom refurbishments and our magnificent new Kindergarten, all of which would not have been possible without the Governors' prudent management of our fee income.
The Sixth Form building project is ambitious but we have already proved that we are more than equipped to reach this target and, together with the Kindergarten, this new facility will play a major role in shaping the future of our Schools. We seek your help with this venture to ensure that we stay at the forefront of education.
The BGS Bursary Fund
Our Bursary Scheme allows full access to The Bury Grammar Schools from age 11 to both boys and girls of high academic ability. Currently we can offer assistance to approximately 15 children each year, but we receive over 100 applications. We aim to fulfil the aspirations of as many of these children as possible.
Any commitment you are able to make to our Bursary Fund, either as a one off donation or a monthly contribution will help to give a young child the very best start in life.
It is impossible to predict how Government policy may change with regard to Independent Schools and we intend to use all contributions made to our Bursary Fund to create wider access to our Schools immediately. Donations will be pooled together until we have sufficient income to create a new bursary place. We hope to increase our bursary provision significantly; each and every donation will make a difference.
