Vicky Shepherd ( née Sudall ) 1938- 2010
The death occurred of Vicky Shepherd at Canterbury on 14th February , 2010 after a two month's illness.
Vicky was born in Littleborough and was a pupil in school 1947 - 1956 . She had already started piano lessons before she came to BGS but her interest in music grew especially while she was in school and she said herself that she was fortunate in having excellent music teachers at Bury Grammar School and gained good marks for her A Level music.
When she left the school in 1956 she trained at Avery Hill College in Eltham followed by a year at Trinity College of Music which was where her organ playing really started .
After her marriage in 1961 she and Gilbert , her husband spent nearly 3 years in Cyprus where they both taught in the British Army schools near Famagusta.
When they returned to the UK they lived first in Peterborough and subsequently in Faversham where they have lived ever since 1972. She was deputy head of an infants school in Rainham followed by a headship at Hempstead in Kent from 1985 until her retirement in 1995.
Since her retirement she has been not only organist at Ospringe Church, but conducted guided tours of Faversham for the Faversham Society , was a trustee of the Faversham Almshouse Trust and lately she has done regular sessions as a guide at Canterbury Cathedral .
She was always very attached to Bury Grammar School and regularly attended the London branch meetings of the Old Girls and also returned to the annual lunch in school whenever possible.
She will be sadly missed by all her former classmates whom she has done so much in the past to keep up to date with one another.
She leaves her husband Gilbert , a son , Andrew and four grandchildren .
A celebration of her life was held in Faversham Parish Church in April with several of her former classmates among the congregation. Order of Service, Vicky Shepherd
