Corporate Giving

Making donations through your company is simple and very tax efficient.

Your company will receive relief in the accounting period in which the payment is made, as a charge against total profits assessable to corporation tax and is regarded as a ‘non-trade charge'. Relief is effectively given at the relevant rate of corporation tax which your company pays.

We are also keen to encourage companies to join our Corporate Bursary Scheme. This was inspired by Sir Peter Ogden who in 1997 founded the Ogden Trust in order to provide places for able children in a small number of successful independent schools.

Individuals and companies are invited to sponsor a child through his/her school career, providing a named bursary place of their choice. Participants in this scheme will pay 50% of the annual school fees (currently set at £8,007).

The Schools are registered as a charity, therefore whatever amount a company pledges to the Bury Grammar Schools will be deducted from profits when assessing tax liability. For companies paying 30% tax, the cost of a £4,004 annual gift would be £2,800.

For £2,800 per year your company could fund a child through our Schools providing a named bursary place. Participants in this scheme receive regular reports in order to allow them to follow their bursary recipient's progress.

The Governors host an annual Chairman's Dinner to promote our fundraising appeal. These evenings present an excellent opportunity to meet with the Business Community, staff and pupils, and to learn more about the benefit of donating through your business.

If you would like an invitation to one of our Corporate Dinners please do not hesitate to contact the Development Officer, Francine Healey, on 0161 764 1733 / francine@bgsdev.demon.co.uk.
